Hallelujah! The sun finally arrived in Belfast. I honestly was beginning to stress about whether or not it would ever arrive. The second it did, I charged up my equipment and ran out the door!
I came home with sunburn on my nose but SD cards filled with footage I had been waiting months to film.
Here's how it all went...
Moody B-roll
This week, I used the sun to capture some moody shots with the drone and camera, from a gorgeous sunrise to a dog enjoying Gaelic football. I woke up at 5:30 a.m. to capture the sun rising in East Belfast behind the pitch (my fingers were frozen off me as it was 1C).
After that, I went to Aeracha Uladh GAC's Saturday training, where both the Men's and LGFA teams played. We spent the hour with them and also arranged another shoot where Joe will raise the pride flag, and they will play in the background.
The boys' team then played a GO game on the pitch, and we were able to capture some footage of their win.
It was a productive and LONG day of filming, and when reviewing some shots later, I am very proud of it. I can see the filming coming together, and it's exciting.
More Interviews
Aeracha has agreed to an interview on the pitch to be scheduled this week. Niamh, who runs the youth team and Irish language through O'Donnells GAC, is booked in for Tuesday, the 30th. Once those interviews are completed, it's all down to the edit. This gives me a few weeks to complete the edit (I have already started this with footage already captured), and there is still time for a pick-up b-roll if needs be.
Postproduction
As mentioned above, I have already started the edit. I have a project set up with all the files/bins organised and colour coded. I have sequences for the audio sync, audio corrections (enhancing for best quality), and tests for colour correction too. I have also tested out a resolution to make it more cinematic. All of these tests have then been uploaded to my YouTube (unlisted) to see how they look. I have done this so that when it comes to assembly, I don't have to worry about fixing/correcting details like colour and audio. It's all done.
Here's a quick snap of my current project:
And here is a clip that shows me testing grades on the drone footage:
I brought up the reds in the highlights a little to show off the gorgeous glow of the sun. It is dark over the pitch, but that's the mood I am going for.
The week ahead...
This week will be spent on the assembly and locking in a first draft. A fellow student has made music for the film, but I would like to send him a draft to work on a score of sorts, and I want to finalise the narration and book an actor to record this.
Two interviews are to be filmed (these are quick snippets to support Joe).
And review the first draft of the dissertation.
There is a lot to be done, and the days are flying by!!
Byeeeee xxx
